“The world needs bad men, We keep other bad men from the door.” Rustn Cohle.

With the new season of True Detective beginning I've decided to pay homage to the original series.

I loved the first season, the bland interview rooms, the dank despair of Carcosa.

They did everything right, the writing, the acting, cinematography, Score, everything!

McConaughey made flowers all over that show.

first post here in almost a year.

Terminator II

one of the best sequals or films ever made in my opinion, cities and people turned to dust in a nuclear blast, A liquid metal robot assassin programmed to kill you and anything that gets in the way, real white knuckle shit with a right dose of black humour and Hollywood.

The effects in this film were ground breaking, that get's thrown around a lot but believe in this case it's true, the great detailed miniature city, they had to create the program to make the liquid terminator come to life!

I was too young to see this film at the movies so I had to tape it sneakily off the tv a year or so after it came out, lord knows how many times I watched that tape.

T3 doesn't exist as far as I'm concerned, T4 was good but lost it in the last quarter, I wonder if another terminator film will ever be made and how it'll sit with fans.

Rosemary's Baby

I started drawing this one ages ago and found again it today and decided to finish it, the film must have made an impression on me for me to do a drawing of it, I must watch it again as I can't quite remember it.

*Spoiler Alert* They made a part two to this film which I haven't seen, I kind of like the idea of the world going batshit satanic style crazy right after the birth of the child and Rosemary having to turn into a bad ass to protect herself and the devil baby, all the while the devil baby rapidly grows and tries to attack his mother.

Lady Medusa

Lady Medussssssssa is a Sydney burlesque model and performer I stumbled across on ModelMayhem.com, her port is great in particular one picture that really grabbed me from a shoot of her, surrounded by cacti in a desert scene I thought "dammit, that's getting the Hell in 3D treatment!" and here it is, turned out a bit grand theft auto style but I really like it, keep up the good work Lady Medusa! More of her work can be found here "CLICK THIS"

Mum.

Everyone thinks their mum is the greatest, and for good reason too, who else would put up with what we've all put them through?

My mum came from a very poor part of Scotland, went to university, studied hard, got her degree and got the first plane out of there to Sydney, Australia.

Here she successfully raised me and my two older brothers, we had a great upbringing and I thank my mum for getting over here and having us.

I have apologised for my teenage years, where I knew exactly what I didn't want to do and what I did want to do had no money in it (playing punk music and smoking weed), the "discussions" we had on these subjects probably took years from my poor mum, but I'm pretty sure she's happy with who I am now.

My mum has never taken any shit from people, she is short in stature yet vocally gigantic, she used to scream at the top of her lungs while I played hockey and was so upset at our half arsed coach that she went and did a coaching course and took over from him, embarrassing for a teenage me, but she was just getting the job done.

That's the kind of woman she is, she lost her little brother to depression, it was a devastating blow to us all, Instead of falling in a heap, which was the overwhelming feeling at his loss, she became the one of the heads of the local chapter of "Parents without partners", a group which puts on events for divorcees like her little brother where people can socialize with their peers, get out there and meet new people.

She is also a representative of the union at the university where she works, as part of the enterprise bargaining team, fighting to get and maintain benefits for university employees, and can often be found up the front of the picket line, utilizing her mighty voice.

Growing up I had a quite a nice painting in my cupboard of a few pieces of fruit, I never thought to ask where it came from, one day my mum told me she'd painted it, I was shocked, here she was seeing me thinking that I was hot stuff with my drawings and she'd been doing better stuff long before my time, between work and raising 3 boys she didn't have the luxury of spending time painting.

That has changed now that we've all grown up and she's picked up the brush again, and its just great, every time I go see her now I'm proud and jealous of her amazing talent.

She's been too busy kicking ass her life to bother being cool, she once went to a rolling stones concert and was heard singing "Scorpio! if you scorpio I never stop!" she also likes that singer "L-Joe" from the radio.

But she's cool to me, my mum is my biggest hero and regardless of how much we annoy each other I love her to bits, Merry Christmas mum xoxo

The Exorcist

One of my favourite films, great script, effects and acting, and last week Linda Blair was in Sydney to celebrate the 40th anniversary of The Exorcist, she signed 2 sheets of blank watercolour paper for me at the signing put on by Monsterfest and Kings Comics.

One of those sheets I have already Hellavised, I'm not 100% stoked on the end result but what are you gonna do? Linda was a real champ and had everyone in the store real excited, I guess she has been doing the fan thing for sometime now, the film still kicks arse and if you haven't seen it, see it! -G

White Sparrow AKA Mini Squaw

Riko Usamo AKA White Sparrow AKA Mini Squaw, was a child martial arts prodigy, kidnapped by the government to be used as an undercover killer, she was raised in a strict environment, the only vice she was allowed was an extensive collection of K-pop, because she could not understand it therefore could not form any rebellious opinions, the perfect killer.

After the shit hit the fan she wandered alone for months, fighting gangs for her survival. One day she came across a large community, that day she seen their leader, The Squaw, She was erased by her presence, White Sparrow was dead, K-pop was dead, there is only the Squaw. She is The Squaw.

Wyrmwood: an australian zombie film, three years of fake blood, real mud, sweat and tears.

Hi all, as a few of you know I (Gav) am known to do a bit of make up effects work, well here is a tale of the biggest project I've worked on to date, a film called WYRMWOOD.

I'd just come off the back of working on a whole bunch of student films, no budgets, high hopes and  a few directors lacking in the zeal department. Then I got an email from a gentleman named Kiah Roache-Turner, I didn't know it at the time, but this guy meant business.
(here's me trying to sound professional)

The crew were all gathered together by Kiah and his brother/producer, Tristan Roache-turner. I drove up to the shoot in the mountains already late at night, got lost, then when I thought I found the right house I opened the front door, lay down and crashed out.

luckily it was the right house, I woke up and met all the great people who were on board, and over the next 2 weekends shot what I thought was just going to be a short film, the results were great, so great that the brothers Roache-Turner decided to expand it into a feature, click HERE to see the short.

The brothers threw me some curve balls in the form of some effects that needed to be done, including broken wrists -

Shooting blood at stuff -

Even got to shoot mah self

Great acting! I also got to work with the famous Zebblin "Bryan" Tilden.

And with the help of a few of Sydney finest make up effects people, I got to create my first full head foam latex mask!

Zombie Ian says Hi.

drew my own take on a comic style cover

I even got to be a zombie! make up and prosthetics made and applied by the head of make up, the wonderful Lisa Cotterill -

I started out on this project not knowing where it was going to take me, "just another short" I thought, but I have had an awesome time! setting utes on fire, watching hordes of undead smash people, witnessed amazing stunts, crushed heads, chopped off hands, and we all had some big belly laughs too. Best of all I got to work with a great bunch folks who after these 3 years are now mates, I have learned a so much along the way from  many people who have been generous with their time and knowledge, and met so many people who I'd work with again in a heartbeat.

Now I need to touch up on my beaty make up skills, big toim.

Hell in a handbasket, a rant from Gavin Kyle.

I’ve never enjoyed the company of people whose approach at life was “who cares?  The earth is going to hell in a hand basket”, but I understand that feeling a lot better after this latest election.

I would like to congratulate Greed, Homophobia, Sexism, Racism, all out Xenophobia, the uncompassionate, Gina Rinehart and Rupert Murdoch’s back pockets, the under educated middle/lower class rednecks who are going to be among those who get shafted the most (but hate asylum seekers, aye),  and last but not least, Tony Abbott.

The fact that this man has been voted Prime minister of this beautiful land says a lot about our terrible judgement of character as a nation, my mum told me never to talk to strangers when I was a child, even as an adult I would do my best to avoid Tony’s strangely deviant gaze, were I to be so unlucky to be in his path walking down the street.

If anyone finds this rant over the top, or finds themselves thinking “chill out you hippy greenie poofter”, then chances are  you are probably too far gone, and should get back to “x factor” or “pimp my grandmother”, and you can chill out while the great guy you voted in signs off on the destruction of large sections of the Great Barrier Reef to make way for ships full of coal, cause lord know your kids would never want to see the reef, Pixar does it better than the real thing anyway, right?

The fact is the cunt is a nut case, straight up, and we have given him the keys to our beloved Australia, drive it like its stolen Tony, Fuckin bag em up!!!

Get rich or die tryin.

Squaw

The Squaw is the one of, if not the most important character of our world here at Hell in 3D, Squaw and Clive were much like Sonny and Cher, Tina and Ike (irk) turner, except our tale has a twist.

Our duo have become more than just another lovable TV couple, they have had to stand in as leaders of a dying world after all the shit hit the fan, like if california had an invasion during Arnolds's reign and he kicked all the bad guys asses single handedly while being praised by the few survivors.

Squaw has embraced her role as leader, she leads her people with an iron fist and defends with a Quiver of carbon arrows, gone are the days of cocaine, luxury cars and ego trips, this is the real world now, this is her world, and  her world will live on in peace or have the or have the unstoppable blue rage to deal with.

Now to clive and his people,ah, hmmm, perhaps another time fer an explanation about that guy, let's just say Squaw ain't too fond of him.

couple o reposts here but ah well, right click and open em in another window to check out deets.

Cheers, Gav x
